Smashing Pumpkins Manchester Concert reviews
Rockfest is a must see!!!
This was my first time seeing most of the bands live at Rockfest. The line-up was as follows: Burn Halo, Bury Your Dead, The After Midnight Project, Suicide Silence, Smashing Pumpkins, Black Label Society, Mudvayne, and Static-X.
All the bands put on a pretty good show. Bury Your Dead was doing just that--maybe the opposite. Their sound would be enough to bring the dead out of their graves to rock out. Burn Halo did an outstanding job with a great mix of metal and melody. Their hard hitting sound is the perfect balance for those who are not too fond of metal and also for those who prefer more intense sound. Suicide Silence definitely had the hardest hitting screaming show.
Wayne Static. Static-X. Enough said, right? This set was unbelieveable! Wayne Static did feature his iconic hairstyle and a long rubber-banded goatee. It was a bit sad to not see Wes Borland on stage, though. Gracing us with "Push It" to start the show and tickling the ear drums with "I'm With Stupid" off their first album. Also featured were some songs off their latest ventures (I don't remember the names as I was thoroughly rocked).
Mudvayne. From the lead singer emerging in a gorilla suit to him rocking so hard he puked, it was an in your face set. Playing old and new songs alike, another great set for long time fans and newer fans. Leading into their final song, the audience was asked, "Can you 'dig' it?!" Smashing Pumpkins. Johnathan Davis and his band have provided a great show. From Johnathan Davis's black kilt to his silver naked lady mic stand to the guy in the horse head mask....we were all thoroughly rocked.
Black Label Society. Zakk Wylde. Amazing. This was a set for all ages to enjoy. Bringing a mix of older music to "newer" music. A great honor to be in the presence of Mr. Wylde. The younger audience members may only know this band from their apperance on Guitar Hero: World Tour where you can play a solo against Zakk Wylde and unlock him as a character. BLS's entire set was pretty unforgettable--as were Mr. Wylde's wild guitars and chain link mic stand.
Overall, definitely NOT a show to skip. I find it hard to believe that anybody left with their vocal cords intact and fully functional. I would recommend earplugs to those who wish to not permanently damage their eardrums by standing next to the speakers for 8 hours.
